RetroTie-Dye is back for 2020

For Spring / Summer 2020, tie-dye makes its renaissance.

With such luxury brands as Prada, Stella McCarney and R13 showing tie-dyed pieces at New York Fashion Week, a new interest in more sophisticated tie dye is emerging in the fashion industry, characterized by simple motifs, monochromatic color schemes, and a focus on fashionable garments and fabrics other than the traditional cotton. A few artists even continue to pursue tie dye as an art form. Fast fashion has already started making copies.

PRADA - spring/summer'19

Of course, celebrities have quickly adopt the trend for this summer :

Beyonce wore it on holiday on the beach, Justin Bieber

and Dree Hemingway at the red-carpet.

According to fashion search platform Lyst reports, tie-dye is one of the most popular fashion search keywords of the year online.

However, basic tie-dyed t-shirts are also very trendy and the go-to for fashion influencers. The new tie-dye is more elevated and fashion forward, and works best on relaxed fits. Prada's interpretation is seen on mini dresses and long skirts, Stella McCartney's on utilitarian boiler styles and denim...

This is an ancient resist-dyeing technique that was first recorded as "tied-and-dyed" in 1909, It was adopted in the 60s and 70s with the "flower power" movement to express freedom, peace and hope. It was also a symbol of creative expression and individuality : no two pieces were the same. The retrospective feeling of tie dye is mostly associated with this era.

Tie-Dye is back with modernity and novelty and is one of the top trends for 2020 !
